The ATHENA Leadership Award® was inspired by the goddess of Greek mythology known for her strength, courage, wisdom and enlightenment — qualities embodied in the ATHENA Leadership Model. The Award is presented to a woman, or man, who is honored for professional excellence, community service and for actively assisting women in their attainment of professional excellence and leadership skills.
Past recipients at the Global level include Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Condoleeza Rice, Christina Koch, Marlo Thomas and more.
“This award means a lot to me. To be a part of the elite group, many of whom are my heroes, is almost unbelievable. In receiving it, I see myself having an even bigger role now to be a cultivator. To make sure I’m recognizing the people that paved the path for me and those that inspired me to do so. To give back, mentor and ensure we pay those experiences forward to share everything we've learned along the way. I want to make sure that our future leaders appreciate the values that this award stands for within the ATHENA Principles.”

As Corporate Vice President of Microsoft's Worldwide Commercial Partner Business, Gavriella Schuster possesses an impressive resumé. With 24 years of experience across many areas of Microsoft - engineering, sales, marketing, product, operations, and worldwide commercial partner business - Schuster knows the business of technology inside and out.
Schuster has risen through the ranks of an industry that suffers from a leaky pipe, where women leave far faster than they join. In the technology sector—where only five percent of industry leaders are women—a 24-year career with Microsoft and the title of Corporate Vice President speak volumes about her capacity for excellence. As a C-level Microsoft leader, Gavriella has grown a P&L to $6.5B and currently leads the company's portfolio of channel partners, which exceeded $1 trillion in ecosystem revenues. Obtaining that level of success takes creative thinking and initiative. But more than that, it is her commitment to helping others that has been instrumental in her many accomplishments.
“Thankfully, I learned early on the importance of helping other people be their best. We all have our own personal expectations. But I discovered that I can't achieve the level of success I desire without help from others. And when I help clear the path for others to do their best work, everyone wins.”
Gavriella Schuster has repeatedly demonstrated this sentiment through both her actions and her support of various initiatives and not-for-profit organizations, especially those that work towards advancing women in technology and STEM fields, increasing diversity and inclusion, and supporting female-founded businesses. At The WIT Network, we have benefited from her generosity as our Executive Sponsor, enabling us to better execute on our mission for gender equality and diversity and inclusion.
Event registration proceeds will go toward funding The WIT Network’s Emerging Leaders program. In partnership with ATHENA International and Women in Cloud, The WIT Network will support a special cohort of 25 women to participate in the Emerging Leaders training. This 8-week certificate program supports women around the globe to develop leadership skills to further their careers. Our commitment to women living while black initiatives is that we will strive to have 50% of the participants will be women of colour to this cohort.
